The quiet joy of browsing slowly
Daniel Osei · August 4, 2026
Forty minutes, no list, no phone — a bookseller's method for finding the book you didn't know you wanted.
The best browsing happens at half speed. We designed our aisles wide and our shelves low so you can see across the room, drift, double back, and find the book you didn't know you wanted.
Try it this weekend: give yourself forty minutes, no list, no phone. Start at the staff-picks bay, pull anything with an interesting spine, read the first page standing up. If it survives page one, it goes in the basket.
Slow browsing is also why we keep chairs in three corners and never rush anyone toward the till. A bookshop should be the calmest room in your week.
